First Communion Class
What Is the Lord’s Supper?
In the Anglican tradition, sacraments are more than symbols. They are “sure witnesses and effectual signs of grace,” through which God works invisibly to strengthen and confirm our faith. (Articles of Religion, #25)
The Lord’s Supper—also called Holy Communion—is one of two sacraments instituted by Christ. It’s not just a reminder of His love or a symbol of unity. It is a spiritual participation in the body and blood of Christ, received by faith. (Articles of Religion, #28)
Communion at Christ the King
At CtK, any baptized person is welcome to receive Holy Communion, including children—with their parents’ permission. Communion is offered weekly at one or both Sunday services.
While children are welcome to receive after baptism, we also believe it’s important for them to grow in understanding of what Communion means. That’s why we offer a First Communion Class each year.
About the Class
The First Communion Class is designed for children who are ready to go deeper in their understanding of the Lord’s Supper. It’s taught by one of our pastors and usually takes place on a Sunday afternoon, just after the 10:45 service, over lunch.
The session lasts about 90 minutes
Parents are encouraged to attend with their child
After the class, children are recognized in a Sunday service and may even help assist the priest at the Table
